Group: MTA Renovation Project
Press release
If NYC is the city of dreams, then its MTA systems are a nightmare.
NYC, New York: Aid the working people of NYC in petitioning for platform screen doors within the MTA system as an investment in the safety of the citizens who make the city run.
Delays, broken trains, and dirty platforms are the norm within NYC’s train system. In 2017, Andrew Cuomo highlighted the issue of littering within the MTA tracks as the cause of train delays and over 700 fire related incidents within the tunnels. Sudden fires within dark tunnels sounds like a scene straight out of a horror movie which is why something needs to be done about it. Our simple, but intricate plan is to place a barrier between the tracks and the platform in the form of platform screen doors. However, this is not a new idea.
Platform screen doors have been a debated topic as a means to counter littering and encourage; however, the idea has been dismissed as a misuse of funds as the doors would need to be customized for each station based on their measurements. However, if platform screen doors are put in place, the funds wasted on cleaning litter and repairing tracks from the fire related incidents would be reduced and allocated to projects that truly need them. This investment in the present would result in profit in the future. So join us as we petition for the government of NYC to invest in the livelihood of its people. For both the city and its people.
